The challenge
Worldwide, hundreds of millions of people are transported by rope-operated systems every year. The high availability of the systems and their operational safety also rely to a large extent on the reliability of the electrical equipment. With an innovative portfolio of solutions for installers and operators of aerial tramways and lift systems, Siemens, together with Siemens solution partner Frey Austria GmbH and WLAN integrator Wireless Consulting GmbH, offers a wide range of electrotechnical drive, automation and visualization solutions as well as services ranging from systems engineering, on-site installation and commissioning to maintenance, repairs and fault clearance services. For the transmission of control data, Frey uses an industrial WLAN system – planned and integrated by Wireless Consulting GmbH. The main focus here was on ensuring the availability of the system, because waiting times caused by missing control data would be unacceptable where 215 people need to be transported per hour and where such failures could result in a drastic loss of revenue, particularly in the ski season.
The solution
For the “Kristbergbahn” and other aerial tramway projects, Frey, in cooperation with Wireless Consulting, relies on the following solutions, all of which guarantee maximum availability and minimum downtime. A convenient IP telephone system and remote maintenance system are also provided for use should any problems occur:
- Control system according to CEN (main drive, selectors, brakes…)
- AC main drive with 4-Q converter Sinamics S150 (Siemens)
- Modern operating and display equipment
(stations, vehicle) - Fail-safe WLAN connection to the vehicle
- Convenient IP telephone system
- Remote maintenance
