Challenge
- Upgrade of the existing Wi-Fi network at the main site with a new scalable Wi-Fi infrastructure
- Infrastructure designed to support future integration of retail shops
- Replacement of the legacy wireless data network (802.11b/g) with modern Wi-Fi 6 technology
- Support for communication tools such as Microsoft Teams and high-quality media presentations in selected areas
- Main focus: reliable coverage for current logistics operations
- Preparation for future deployment in additional branches and retail stores
Project Scope
- Requirement analysis
- Vendor selection
- Design and planning of the Wi-Fi infrastructure
- Installation and commissioning
Implementation
The requirements were discussed with the relevant departments of the customer. Based on these discussions, a complete infrastructure plan was created using Wi-Fi simulations and on-site coverage measurements. After a neutral vendor evaluation, Extreme Networks was selected as the technology provider.
A total of 240 access points and two controllers were installed and configured at the main location. In addition, 94 access points have already been deployed in the retail shops (one AP per location) and connected to the central network. A detailed Wi-Fi survey for the shops will follow later to ensure full wireless coverage.
Technology
For this project, AP310i access points were deployed in the logistics areas, including variants with directional antennas. In the office environments, AP510i devices with 4×4:4 antenna technology were installed to provide higher performance and increased data throughput.
The controller infrastructure is based on NX-7500 controllers running in a redundant cluster with a 10 Gbps uplink. Management is handled by an additional virtual controller (VX-9000), which will also manage the shop networks.
For advanced monitoring and analytics, an additional Extreme NSight instance was implemented. This solution provides centralized monitoring across all locations, including forensic data analysis and automated reporting.
